Folks say that Silk Hope got its name back in the 1800’s, when intrepid farmers decided that they would try their hand at farming silk worms right in the heartland of North Carolina’s piedmont. They named their settlement after their enterprise: silk hope.

streamThe farmers brought in mulberry bushes, imported some silk worms, and set about the task of turning their vision into a reality. Over time they had to abandon their wishes, but their sense of optimism, vision and drive live on in the town’s name.

If you come to visit, you’ll see the idyllic green stretches of forest, pastures and streams that inspired the visions of those early settlers, and feel the magic that led them to their quixotic hopes.
